Monday Sun 20th September 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

The forecast was correct and the Sun was out this morning, hanging in a beautiful blue sky....perfect....except that the seeing conditions were pretty poor to say the least. I managed a Ha and Ca II K FD, but absolutely could do nothing in WL. Granulation was poorly visible and the main active region was unstable on screen and I was barely able to focus.

I did manage a couple of shots on the 150mm mod earlier on, but even then the images were not the best. Anyhow it's a record of how the Sun looked this morning from the UK.

...and the closer views on the 150.

Hi

Clear spells here as well.

I observed over the house earlier than normal and saw the 3 main proms plus lots of smaller ones. In the 90mm and Quark 4.2x Chromo with 25mm Clave'.

The small ones dissapeared once things warmed up.

Also I could see the surface details in the Mak180 PST mod with the bino-viewers up to 150x, just like the image.

Cheers. Andrew.

Stunning view Stuart, the CaK image is a real cracker. With CaK we can see 4 maybe 5 regions where there will be new ARs forming in the next few days or weeks. Bright intense formations in plage in CaK are a real give away. We can also see a long since decayed region too. CaK is a very revealing snapshot into the birth and death of active regions.
