MiniSHG - H alpha and CaK

Post by Merlin66 »

Upgraded the slit to the Jeulin 10 micron x 6mm slit plate.
The definition looks better.
These are from a stack of four images, each 9sec scans. Processed only in EN-INTI.

Wow!! very nice :hamster: :bow the CaK is razor sharp but I think the Halpha is a bit soft, is that more difficult to focus?
Come to think about it, how do you focus on the disc when all you can see is a narrow slit?

Alexandra,
You "focus" on the solar atmospheric "wiggles" seen on the target absorption line when it's in best focus.
Onwards and Upwards

I've extracted a few frames from a full solar disk, 9 sec scan, which show the "normal" cropped H alpha absorption line used to re-construct the SHG image. ( Cropped to 1150 x 170 for the GIF)

You can see the "wiggles" in the Ha line caused by the surface features and a couple of sunspots tracking across. The clearer the wiggles, the better the focus and solar detail recorded.
The solar image shows the results from this full scan.
