Celestron 100mm F5 modification

Post by AndiesHandyHandies »

Hi

I decided to try the Quarks on this.

To try the Chromosphere at F40 where it will be at its best.

Stopped the scope down to 50mm so F10.

Observed with the 4.2x Chromo.

Nice view of the surface. Could see the sunspots, bright areas and some filaments. Using 40mm Celestron Symmetric.

I could see the sloping up prom at G4.00.

I went to F20 for the Prominence Combo and the off axis arrangement to pick out a better part of the etalon mica. With 2x ES TC. And Clave' 25mm Plossl. One bright area near one of the spot groups.

I realised that I could use the Vixen VMC110 with the Chromosphere, I initially used it for my PST Mod trials.

So try that next time.

Cheers. Andrew.

Hi

Tried the Quarks with the VMC110 today. Not very sharp. A cheap scope of course.

Cheers. Andrew.

All this experimenting will pay dividends in the end...

Hi

RodAstro says the generic 100mm F5 we share a version of is the scope he uses with his DS60 etalon.

Had a try today. Not quiet as sharp as the 90mm I did not think.

Want to try a 2x Barlow to get it to F10 before the Quark 4.2x. F40 but more light.

Cheers. Andrew.
