Hi James,

That is an excellent image. The clouds make it a lot more dramatic ...

I am checking out a possible new site for solar imaging on the 22nd floor of a public housing flats. Here is the view of the rising sun at 7am:

Wow!! I bet the seeing is probably better at that height too. Seems to be a consistent finding that folks who image from a balcony get amazing seeing.

Finally a sunset view for me in October for the solar challenge. Still a lot of cloud around   although it does help to create mood.

Finally got a cloudless sunset, lol. The third image where I underexposed as much as I could has some slight sunspot detail visible from the 2 main sunspot groups (or I need to clean my lense, one of the two:), and a touch of green on top, though I don't know if that is green flash or just funky dispersion due to being so low on the horizon.

I think sketching is a legit entry. We can do sketches of what we see in the eyepiece, why not a sketch of what one feels in the soul on a rainy, sunless day. Be it the sun, or the spark of creativity within, both bring a shining light into our lives:) Or something like that, lol.

Re: October Solar Challenge

Hi all...

The weekend forecast is for cloud and rain here, and with a clear sunrise on Thursday (28th), I figured it would be my last opportunity to get a sunrise shot for the Solar Challenge. Much of my eastern horizon has trees in the distance, so a clear sunrise over the horizon doesn't work well without traveling to a better view point.

So, that said, here is my sunrise through the trees, with a little fall colour showing too.

Here's my take, sunrise, just after 9am this morning from Reykholt where we are staying in Iceland, it's a zoomed in mobile phone pic so excuse quality. The volcano to the left of the sun is Hekla, one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland, fortunately it didn't erupt (so far!) while we are there. Hoping skies remain clear as this evening there is G3 (KP7) solar storm forecast to hit from the X flare earlier in the week.
