G3 Geomagnetic Storm

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi everyone,

Wow...oh wow.....my magnetometer registered a significant response overnight as the anticipated cannibal CME ripped through our region of space in the late hours of November 3rd here in Europe.

Geomagnetically this registered as two significant events at G3 and G2 levels, producing beautiful aurora down to relatively low latitudes. The peak was so intense I had to rescale my charts to display the data in full. Cycle 25 certainly is stirring into action.

Here are my data. The daytime record for the 3rd dwarfs in comparison with the evening event, which gives you an idea of the intensity of this storm. G3 is half way up the storm scale with G5 being 'extreme'.

I know what you mean. Alexandra. I did the same.

My view north is cluttered with trees, so I doubt I'd have seen anything from home anyhow and I didn't fancy driving out of town on the off chance.

Thanks Stu for the latest.
I missed this one - due to internet-snags.

The storm is still in progress, varying from minor/moderate to strong. Here are my data so far, including a comparison with corresponding Planetary K-index (Kp) data from NOAA.

From What I have seen on the internet, Northern Ireland certainly was able to see this Aurora.

So whether anymore occurs from this particular event, seems a tad uncertain during UK night-time...

Fantastic chart Stuart :bow but I am still very bitter I missed it :(

Just to rub it in, it was even on Radio 2 chat in the morning as a listener from Cumbria was excited they saw the northern lights from their bedroom window. That was so close to us, and I never even looked.....

Thanks again Stu for your excellent reports of these events of recent.
Of course much of the actual event times show that during our U.K. times/Z daylight would have prevented these from showing here, but of course others elsewhere on Earth maybe had night/darker-skies for such visuals..

Stu, I don't understand much about this, but being a meteosensitive person, my head quite accurately "reminds" me of geomagnetic storms.

PS I'm trying to figure out these things now
