Dec 20th Sun activity

Post by JohnW »

20th Dec ... Sun. Lots of activity on the sun at the moment. Today I got my Lunt 100 Ha scope out and took this single exposure of the SE sector where most activity (sunspots, flares and filaments) was. Canon 550d single exposure. Thanks for viewing.

John,
Your image certainly backs up my visual session today! It looks like that filament below 2907 and 2908 may have grown a bit longer. I think....

Hi John,
I am quite impressed with your images here.
Is your dSLR modded (LPF2 filter removed or Baader filter ?) and how is your dSLR attached to your solar telescope. Do you use spacers, what T-adaptor do you use ?

Do you process the Red channel only for the h-alpha signal, thanks.

Thanks.

Magnus

To Magnus,
No my Canon 550d is not modded - I use a Canon adaptor ring to attach to telescope. I process all channels together and take the pics in full colour.
I process on a MAC computer in IPhotos and GIMP. It took many years of experimenting to get it right for my set up. Regards, John W
