ZWO ASI 533MM camera coming soon

Post by thesmiths »

I noticed this post on the ZWO feature request website:

https://bbs.astronomy-imaging-camera.co ... n-progress

The question was "New monochrome IMX533 Sony sensor - ASI 533 mono in progress?"

The response was "Estimated in first quarter of 2022, stay tuned".

Specs would be 11.3mm x 11.3mm, 3.76 micron. Presumably it would be a cooled camera, like the colour version. But there would be some logic to also make an uncooled version. This would be a more modern version of the 1600MM (no amp glow, on-board DRAM). I actually like the idea of a square chip.

Interesting! Looks like will come in at about £1k and should give full disks to around 1000mm focal length. Shame its not a wee bit bigger as would get a 1200mm focal length full disk on it.

I noticed also there were recent $50 price cuts to the ASI 290MM, 178MM, 178MC and 224MC. I'm not sure if that's a sign they will be discontinued and replaced soon by newer models or whether there were price cuts on the sensor chips themselves. In any case, all of them are quite good multipurpose cameras (I personally own the 290MM, 178MM and the 224MC). Nice to see some prices going down when everything else seems to be getting more expensive.

I fancy using a 183 colour for full disk shots with my 100/800. A bit of Selenology should be fun!

Yes, the 183MC is perfect for a 800mm selenologist. The moon does have some nice subtle colouration.
