AR2916 in High Res WL & HA | Jet Transit | Dec 28th 2021

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

I was blessed with some good seeing this morning, peaking in the 0.7 to 0.8 arc-seconds with much lower averages, but it was sufficient to image high resolution in 540nm at a fine image scale and capture some HA along with it at a lower image scale for fit the entire region into the FOV. AR2916 is beautiful in any wavelength currently, lots of big spots, all the major features of them represented, facing right at us and has some light bridges in two of the major spots.

Captured a chance jet transit going through AR2916 this morning too in HA. Terrible quality but an interesting transit none the less. Video link provided if you want to see it in real time and some still image extractions below.

Marty,
Outstanding work! You show granulation as it should be shown! The individual granules are easily seen as well as nice spot detail in your 540nm image of AR12916!! No porridge here, you've got rice grains! Nice Jet capture too.

Great images - I'm sure that plane has crashed into the sun. Well done Marty.

Excellent captures Martin, but please tell me how you managed to turn the plane from the inverted to flying upright, as I wasn't aware that this type of passenger aircraft could fly upside-down ?? :o

You must be a cleverer pilot than me..

Thanks vm

I had to invert the image vertically to match orientation of SDO of the solar features, so the plane changed positions with that; I was using a diagonal. :)

Very best,

Good enough quality to identify it as a Boeing 737.
