After what seems like an age with endless cloud, as I was coming home from work tonight the clouds finally cleared and I could see the gibbous moon in the sky. Desperate for some scope time I got out the LZOS 100/800 for a view. I was keen to try out my new APM 7mm XWA 110 deg fov eyepiece that I got for Christmas, and I wasn't disappointed! The moon nearly fills the fov, and the scale means there is plenty of detail to explore. I spent quite a while just looking. This is a setup I want to use later in the year with a solar wedge as I think i'm going to get some really quite nice white light views with it... Anyways, tonights images, first off the whole moon:

And closer views with the ZWO290mm and a 2x cemax barlow...

And heres why I only do solar (and well maybe a bit of lunar and planets now) - this is how many stars I see with the naked eye, no real difference whether the moon is up or not...

Just nice to get out with a scope! Hope you like.

These are really great images Mark
We were looking at Orion too last night and compared it with the images on Sky at Night for light pollution. We saw exactly what you saw, no other stars at all, to be honest we couldn't really see the sword either. However, we did have bad low level fog which was rebounding all the light pollution making it worse.

Hi Mark,
Very nice results there.
I had almost exactly the same session as yourself, as you'll see in my post.
Good to see you managed to get some time on your scope. I know it has been a while.

Re: Evening Moon 11th January
Thanks Alexandra, thanks Stu!
Light pollution is awful round here and until retirement I don't have the time to sit out all night with narrow band filters doing multiple images etc, maybe 20 odd years ago I could pull an all nighter and then do a normal next day, but no more that's why solar works for me!
I'm pleased with the full disk I got, but (being typically critical of myself) I wonder if the closer shots are a little bit too close with the 2x barlow and the 290mm, they are softer than I would like, it could be i'm using a barlow that costs 2% of what the scope does, or it could be seeing, the image was doing a certain amount of boiling. My lunar imaging experience is somewhat limited compared to solar... I have the 1.6x APM telecentric I think I may try next time, it might be a better compromise.
Sods law tonight is another lovely clear night but we had our financial adviser around so was sat in listening to him, and all I could do while he was being all sensible and talking about different options was think about buying a ZWO183mc and what solar goodies I wanted to buy later in the year. Buying new cameras for astro was certainly not what he suggested.
I should be able to get out of work a bit earlier tomorrow, so if the clear skies prevail I will have another go at the moon. That would be 3 nights in a row, which is approaching record territory though!
