Lunar Pics from Jan 15th

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

After seeing several members post some lunar pics it jogged my memory that I had captured some SER files back on the 15th before doing some deep sky imaging that night. These were taken at prime focus through the C14 with the ASI174MM camera and the Baader 680nm cut on IR Pass filter. These generally highlight he lunar highlands where the ancient craters scar the landscape and show the effects of time as new craters overlay old. Some of my favorite regions of the moon to explore.

Glad you shared these Brian.
Excellent detail especially the Clavius region.
Always wanted a C14 to play with, but sadly too big a beast for me.
Seeing at my site just won't play with big scopes, I have a 12" classical cassegrain that has never
seen more than two nights that do it justice. I have got better images with the 8" F8 newt than I
have achieved for a few years.
Best wishes,
David

Wow!! sure you weren't part of a lunar landing :hamster: :bow

I took a pic of the Moon a couple of days ago and still haven't processed yet.

David, Mark, and Alexandra...

Thanks for your comments on these pics :bow

Alexandra, panning around the moon at medium to high power certainly gives the sense of flying over the lunar landscape.

David, I too had a 12" classical cassegrain but it was hard to use due to its weight and old hardware (clunky fittings to collimate, etc). I finally gave up on it and sold it to a fellow who rebuilt it in an open tube assembly with new mirror cells and it was performing much better than I even had it. The scope you use on a regular basis will give you the most rewards!
