Sun in Ha and CaK Jan 20th 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

Another blue sky day here, but yet again poor seeing. Anyhow, here are my FDs in CaK and Ha and a couple of closer views in Ha of a magnetically disturbed region within the southern chromosphere and some post flare loops on the western edge from AR2929, which produced an M5.5 magnitude flare earlier this morning (06:01 UT).

First up are the calcium disks:

....and the Ha disks (albeit a bit patchy)

Finally the closer views, including the loops, which are more or less edge on, although they are somewhat faint and not very sharp because of the conditions.

The forecast over the coming days is not good for solar viewing, so that's my lot for a little while.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Nice set of images, Stu.

Sky is clear this morning in Wisconsin, but the temp outside is zero degrees F. A good day to read a few chapters in Viladrich et al "Solar Astronomy."

Thank you for the beautiful views of the sun, Stu, showing the new AR. Snowing here, a gray day.

Lovely captures Stu, I've just finished a session and similar views to me. There were some lovely proms in Calcium II K too. Screenshot of one of the cak proms I captured today too. Thanks for sharing.

Hi

Thanks for the images.

My seeing was not good either.

Proms pretty much as you imaged.

Like Rainier your bright area on the SE is burnt out. For me there was a double spot, one small. And then two bright areas with a smaller spot at the bottom.

You show more contrast on the surface than I could see.

Nice to see the dim loops.

Cheers. Andrew.

Very nice Stu! Those bands of activity really are getting quite prominent now.

Thank you, everyone. After a long period of the Sun being quite blank, it’s so interesting to see the activity level increasing as cycle 25 continues to evolve and it’s such a privilege to be able to image it.

Stu!

I don't know how I missed these! Very nice. My eyes again are drawn to your CaK images. Why am I drawn to something I don't have? :-(

You got post flare loops in Ha too!
