March 29 FD LS80
March 29 FD LS80
Hi Friends,
I can’t believe that it’s been six months since I taken the Lunt 80 out for some sunshine. Time flies as we get older it seems. Anyway, the skies were clear this morning and this time of year the sun has moved so that it shines into the screened porch. No need to carry the equipment out and try to shoot between the trees. This session was more of a test of the equipment and of me. Just a simple setup with a 2x Barlow and 2/3” Grasshopper camera.
This is what I got. Wow, what a disappointment. Something must have happened to the scope over it’s six month vacation. Looked like some sort of internal reflection, but these are pressure tuned etalons. Of course I proceeded to dismantle and reassemble it back to a single stack with only stock parts and reset the pressure tuning. To no avail, still a double image. Could it be operator error?
Double image One more cup of coffee and I opened the screen enclosure. This is what I got then, along with a lesson learned.

Wow.
Breathtaking beautiful full disks, Phil! Sometimes we just need that another cup of coffee before things go smoothly.

Thanks for kind comments. They make me smile. While working on the scope and vigorous verbalizing my sentiments, my wife brought me another cup of coffee. I will thank her too.

Re: March 29 FD LS80
that is the sort of thing I would do what a gorgeous disc, so much detail the first thing I thought with the double version was that it can't be that bad as the surface detail is perfect, usually the first thing to go wrong is any disc detail
