150mm refractor+Lunt50
Hi all! I want to share with you a successful modification, the heart of which is the Lunt50. I used the refractor Explorer Scientific 150/988. To accurately set the axis, a focuser adjustment mechanism was made. For the ERF, I used a combination of filters: UHC-Svbony 2" + Standard Lunt 50 + Ha 12nm Astronomik. All filters have a slight slope to avoid glare. Such a number of filters work very effectively, the hand feels very little heat in the main focus. Not all work has been completed, but a start has been made, the first light has taken place! Peace to your home!

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Just so I'm clear, the UHC isn't doing anything for your contrast in this context, but is one layer in your energy rejection, correct?
Nice images, by the way.

Very good Aleksey! Longer term I would really suggest additional energy rejection, or at the very least mounting the existing filters higher up the tube.

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
That's a great mod Aleksey! ,where is the Ha 12nm filter positioned? is it for image enhancement or energy rejection?.

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Thank you! The UHC filter comes first to reflect some of the energy towards the lens.

Thanks Martin!
It is installed right before etalon. I noticed that after two filters the sunbeam was still warm. After installing the third filter, the temperature dropped significantly.

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Thanks Mark! I have a 135mm ERF, I'm mounting it behind the lens. I tested this filter sandwich as a cheap replacement for ERF.marktownley wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 5:15 am Very good Aleksey! Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Interesting to see a second 152mm mod from you. I have had a coronado 60mm mod in the pipeline for some time now and am currently experimenting with etalon distance and focus distance. Thankyou for your inspiration in this field.
I could not get hold of an AR 152 (they are discontinued) and got a TS optics one instead so hope to share some results from that in the coming months.
Thanks,
Fraz.

Coronado 60 DS BF15 - EQ6 Pier mounted - Stage 2 mod completed @ 100, 127, and working on a coronado 60 to 150 mod. Working on a Pst Etalon DS Quark.
When I first went dark sky I took the advice to get the best mount I could. I give you the advice to get the best erf you can.

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Can I just add that your full discs are of exceptional quality and show very little graining. I wonder if this setup is more suited to that and wonder if you have used a focal reducer for those images or have created a mosaic?

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Hi, Aleksey
These images are very impressive. I especially like the first with very nice detail in the penumbra.
I'm waiting for a Lunt LS60MT in a few weeks to do a mod like yours with the etalon part coupled with a new Stellarvue 127 (seems to have generous back focus with a removable section) and a number of other telescopes I have.
I can do this mod because I found out the thread size of the etalon assembly (50 x 1) from a similar mod done by Malveaux.
I may try a mod with an LS50 like yours (if weight is a problem with the LS60MT). Would you mind sharing the thread size for your LS50 etalon? How did you find this out? Thanks.
Lou

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
Hopefully Aleksey can confirm, I think the threads are M68. So you can get a commercial M68 to M48 adapter to do a 2" (M48) insertable module mod like this.gabrieli wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 7:43 pm Hi, Aleksey

Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50
This is excellent result! When I tried this mod with my 6" APO and 50 Lunt I've got only very low contrast (of band) image. Good to see such good result
