Worlds largest solar telescope DKIST video on YT

Post by Radon86 »

Hi All,

I could not sleep so continued my learning on image processing and also the Sun.
Found this about the Daniel K Inouye solar telescope in Hawaii. It shows the highest resolution of any scope as far back as May 2021, not sure if that has been exceeded now by Parker solar probe. Anyhow, it shows detail of the sun down to about 30km across !
The Coude lab has to keep dust down to an absolute minimum, and cooling is mega important. In case you did not see it before:

Hi Magnus: thank you for the link. We recently had a lecture at the observatory by Nour Raouafi one of the chief scientist of the Parker Solar Probe. I was surprised to learn that it does not take direct pictures of the chromosphere but rather was designed more to study the corona. The European Solar Orbiter on the other side does take some direct pictures of the chromosphere and the results blow your mind.

For those who are interested in watching Dr. Raouafi's Parker Solar Probe lecture, here is the link

And here below is a chromosphere image from the Solar Orbiter that was released a while ago.

Hi Franco,
Amazing lecture and super interesting stuff. I am just over half way through, its so interesting. I may have to start studying advanced physics and maths to continue this !!!
