Little outburst 19th of May, 2022

Post by Lagonda »

A little outburst was noticed while observing for public took place and I caught some of the burst on the edge.
Image was taken with Baader D-ERF + TEC 140FL + Baader TZ-3 + Solar Spectrum RG38 0.5A + TeleVue Powermate 2.5x + Player One Apollo M max.

Yes, it was a sudden surge. A friend of mine noticed that visually and I put the camera on my scope and capture some of it. :)

Nicely imaged. You got lucky, but made the best of the opportunity. Great work.

Lagonda,

You can improve your setup performance if you change it a bit.
As I see, your SS RG38 0.5A works at telecentric beam @F/21. This is far not optimal F/D for realization of the etalon potential. The slower F/D, the better. So, if you will place a TVPowerMate2x before the TZ3, then your SS etalon will work at F/42 which is so MUCH better. Images should be significatly more contrasty with better shades in low contrast areas.

With this changes you will no longer need 2.5x Barlow in front of the camera.

Hope this helps.

Valery

Hi Valery, thank you for the info. I have variable iris in front of D-ERF filter and it is 113mm. So I get f/26. The reason why I am using TZ-3 instead of TZ-4 is to get full disc for visual observing. I am waiting TZ-4 along with some other SS filters to reach f/30 and even more. Now I have M68 tele compendium (tubes where you put TZ-system) and I have to see what are the options to put Powermate in it. But I don't think this is possible with M68 compendium. For imaging there are many ways of getting bigger image along with different camera sensor sizes.
I will look into it and see if I could put some Powermate before filter. I really appreciate your comment. :)
Best regards
Alan
