Adapter question

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: I just received a Baader TZ-4 telecentric that I need to fit to the 8" Celestron optical tube. I believe the TZ-4 has a T2 size thread.

Can somebody point me to the correct adapter (for front and back of the TZ-4).

Thank you for your help !

Hi Franco,

It depends on how you want to do it. The TZ-4 is T2 threaded on the side that would interface with your etalon and camera imaging train. The other side is T2 but inserts at full depth for standard 2" gear. So you could thread a 1.25" to T2 adapter onto its nose and install a mini DERF (depending on the wavelength you need for this project). And you could insert it into a typical 2" focuser. In this case, on SCT, a typical SCT to 2 inch visual back would allow this. Ideally, a SCT to 2" crayford/rack focuser and then insert your imaging train there for better focusing (with no mirror shifting).

T2 is M42x0.75
2" is M48x0.75

You can interface your SCT thread from SCT to M48 or directly to T2 as needed just knowing those two thread variables.

It will be very difficult to focus as the mirror shifts if you're focusing with the primary mirror and not something in the imaging train (such as crayford focuser or helical focuser at some stage in the imaging train). The TZ-4 first lens needs to be placed at -93mm from focus, and 220mm to camera sensor after the final stage of the TZ-4.

What do you plan to do with it?

Very best,

Thank you Sol Seeker, Marty and Christian. I just want to connect the TZ 4 to the Celestron tube on one side and the Solar Spectrum on the other. I have some extensions in case I need them for focus, but hope it will work with just the adapters.
