22May2022 Spectroheliograms - Part 1 - Halpha

Post by p_zetner »

Hello Everyone.

I managed to do some spectroheliography on the 22nd and 23rd of May. On the 23rd , I tested and tweaked my UV SHG which is my older instrument adapted for the ultraviolet with a 3600 l/mm grating. Some of the results of that session have already been posted here viewtopic.php?t=36323 (more results to follow.) The session on the 22nd was carried out with the instrument described here viewtopic.php?f=8&t=30793 Some modifications have been introduced and I'll post a picture in the near future. Here is a result from the 22nd, focusing on the H alpha line.

There are three images in this montage, taken at line centre and at offsets of 0.68 and 1.36 angstroms towards the red. I'll get to processing corresponding images in the blue wing shortly. I'm happy with the performance. The spectroscopic resolution is about 0.3 angstroms fwhm (as tested on the bench) which is comparable to some of the filters currently in use. I have a few more images (HeD3 , H beta) to process from this session as well.

Cheers.
Peter

Hi Everyone.

I've been slow to process images but wanted to amend the original post which shows H alpha disks at (presumed) line centre and in the red wing. When I processed blue wing images, it became evident that my wavelength calibration was off. So, here are H alpha spectroheliograms in both red and blue wings with the wavelength offsets (properly calibrated) indicated in the images.

Cheers.
Peter

PS. Thanks for the feedback Alexandra and Fulvio!

Peter:
Great images, and a confirmation of my experiences in the field.
Cheers
