It was a scorcher yesterday 6/13/2022

Post by rigel123 »

Heat index was 99F when I started and 103F when I said "Enough!" Sky was pretty soupy although seeing was fairly steady. Had horrible banding and Newton Rings for some reason which I typically don't need to worry about. May need to try clocking my DS as well as trying out my tilt adapter too in this hot weather! Lunt LS60T DS, ASI174MM, Meade 3X Tele-extender for closeups.

15 minute animation of the SW limb, not sure what AR might have been firing off those little surge proms on the limb. Rotated 90 degrees CCW for viewing:

Sounds a bit hot for me Warren! The results came out well considering though.

Do you use the same processing settings on your full disk as the closer views?

Thanks Mark, I don’t think I use the same processing settings ever, they are forever changing!

Nice work in the extreme heat, Warren. I would not be able to stand it: I prefer the cold 🥶

Here in western North Carolina we reached 90F yesterday and 86F today. Fortunately I usually observe the sun before we reach the daily high temperature. Out of the mountains in SC and eastern NC they have had temperatures above 95F. ( 35C ). Tomorrow we are forecast to hit 94F and the lower elevations outside the mountains may hit 100F or above ( 37.7C ). As I type this at 1:37am EDT it's 77F ( 25C ) outside. Unusually warm for so late at night. I am glad I have air conditioning.

Thanks Jochen and Marios! Supposed to hit 96 again today with 110 heat index. It’s 6:17 EDT and 77 so going to set up for a quick morning session before it gets brutal again!

Great shots and ani Warren :bow :hamster: the full disc looks a little off band, I usually find newtons rings are much worse the more off band you get. Perhaps it is the air pressure/heat?

We are predicted to get one hot day on Friday, 27 degrees!! then back to 18 on Saturday :)

Thanks all! Alexandra, not sure if it was offband or the processing to try and pull stuff out of that soupy sky! I played with that image more than I typically do and don’t think I did myself any favors in doing so!

Great images and animation Warren. Love the little dancing surge proms and the goldfish mouth opening and closing bottom left!
'Hats off' to you for persevering in the heat. Being a redhead, my hat was firmly on and I started melting at 26°C imaging the spots in WL yesterday.
