June 15 2022 Observations. WL Only.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:30 to 16:00 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy. The seeing is surprisingly a bit above average and the temperature is 86F ( 30C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5X ( WL )
I have gotten nine, maybe ten, regions of activity on the WLC photosphere today! Eight of these are numbered systems with five in the northern hemisphere, four numbered and four in the southern hemisphere with all four being numbered.

Just inside the NE limb is a small emerging new area of faculae with a single small spot. West of it is the scattered area of spots and pores that is associated with AR13033. SE of AR13033 barely north of the equator is a single spot showing both umbra and penumbra. It's associated with AR13034. AR13032 lies WNW of AR13033 and is dominated by a sizeable spot with a light-bridged umbra and easily seen penumbra. AR13030 lies on the CLM and is a triangular patch of spots/pores. A dark spot lies between AR13030 and AR13032.

The SW quadrant shows two spots that are associated with AR13036. Some structure can be seen to these as well as some tiny pores between them. To the south lies two patches of faculae. At least one of these is associated with AR13029. I don't know whether the other is a separate system or magnetically attached to AR13029. If counted separately it would raise my AR count to 10! I see no spots or pores here. The easy sizeable and scattered system of AR13031 in the SW quad is easily seen. A " quad-spot " in the western part dominates the group. A smaller lone spot lies NW of it. Could this be evidence of yet another active region coming to be? The SE quadrant shows AR13035 as a structured spot with some pores to the east. Some faint faculae can be seen here surrounding them as well.

The fine granulation is surprisingly easy to see today.

The music today is the Herschel Symphonies by the astronomer and composer Sir William Herschel. His son John developed the solar wedge we all are familiar with!

I'll also include the CaK view from the KSO earlier today from Austria.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Hello James,

Long time no see. Great session in hot weather! The Herschel family made a huge contribution to astronomy and telescope building and music.

Thanks for the report James, we have those temperatures forecast for friday. Sunny here today (apart from first thing when I would have been able to observe) but no cigar for me. Hoping first thing in the morning is fruitful now.

I wondered where you had been Ivan. I hope all is well?

Good luck on observing tomorrow, Mark.

It's all right, thanks for the concern, James. There was just a lot of work and chores around the house. I tried to shoot, but the weather was unlucky.

Thanks for the report, James.

We're getting a forecasted 36 degrees Celsius (97 F) here on Saturday. Don't think I'll be venturing outside for solar in that.

WoW, Jochen. I never would have thought Belgium would ever get so hot. You are considerably north of latitude of me in North Carolina.

I understand being busy, Ivan. I am too busy myself and I don't see me retiring anytime soon.

It's fairly exceptional for temperatures to get this high over here; although it has been happening more and more over the last 5 years or so. Generally speaking, we're a sort of light version of UK weather mostly :D

Great observing session James :hamster: I never realised the Hershel connection, thanks for that nugget :)
I had a quick sunocular view yesterday lunchtime before it clouded up again. Everyone is talking about this hot weather but here in Cheshire it has stayed stubbornly cloudy. Early this morning it dawned blue sky sky but it is clouding up again I see.

Thanks and welcomes Alexandra, The Herschels did well with astronomy and classical music! Good luck in catching the Sun.
