June 20 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time is from 13:53 until 15:02 UTC. Some high thin clouds. Fair seeing. 72F ( 22.2C ) at 14:30 UTC.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see nine areas of activity in the Ha chromosphere today. Six in the northern hemisphere with five of those being numbered systems. I see three regions in the southern hemisphere. Two of these are numbered systems.

A slightly lighter area in the chromosphere can be seen just NE of a U shaped filament in the NE quadrant. Further northeast lies an arc of patchy filaments ending in a filaprom. AR13038 lies on the CLM and is seen as a bright patchy plage with some fine filaments seen with some difficulty within. Off-tuning better reveals some spots there too. Almost due west in the NW quadrant lies an easy filament with a brightening beneath it. These are associated with AR13033. NW of AR13033 lies AR13032 with a really nice filament arising just south of a spot and snaking NE well out of the active region heading well north of AR13033. Some scattered plage can be seen associated with AR13032 as well. AR13030 to the west of AR13032 is seen as a brighter patch of plage than it's neighbors and has two visible spots. AR13034 lies SE of AR13033 and SW of AR13038 ith it's spot being just north of the solar equator. It's plage is barely visible.

Due south of AR13034 lies AR13035 in the SW quadrant. I see it as an easy patch of plage. SW of it lies a long filament. AR13031 is seen as plage very near the SW limb. A few filaments are seen in the SE quadrant including a broken U and a double one NE of it. A small patch of plage is seen near the SE limb.

A nice bright tent-shaped prominence is seen on the NE limb. A void can be seen within it. Hey, that's the entrance! I can also see some nice but fainter more feathery proms on the NW limb.

The mottles are visible across the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see eight regions on the WL photosphere today. Five in the northern hemisphere with four being numbered systems. Three are seen in the southern hemisphere with two of these being numbered systems.

A small patch of faculae is seen near the NE limb. No spots or pores are seen there. AR13038 is seen straddling the CLM as a nice grouping of spots. A group of spots at it's eastern end is connected to a sizeable spot at it's western end by a group of pores and small spots streaming along the groups southern extremities. Another spot lies north-center. Several spots show umbra-penumbra form. SW of AR13038 lies the structured spot of AR13034. AR13030 and AR13032 visually appear as a single complex. Four spots among them are easily seen. The easternmost of these shows an easy umbra and penumbra. A couple more tiny pores can be glimpsed. The area is scattered in faculae.

The SW limb shows the faculae of AR13031 near the limb. SDO HMI continuum images pick up two pores here but I could only see one of them with certainty, visually. A cloud of pores betrays the position of AR13035 but the pore cloud only hints resolution to my eye. SDO shows about 6 tiny pores here and another pore cloud with even tinier pores is located just to the east. I could not see this one at all! I can see a small facula near the SE limb. I see no spot or pore here.

The fine granulation is visible but not overly so.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and a nice Father's Day. I know I did!

James

Thanks James, I enjoyed a bit of visual with the DS50 after work, there was quite a bit of high cloud and while this was a pain when I was trying to image it didn't seem to affect things too much visually.

Hi James,

The tent prom was very nice.

13038 had some nice fine details running down its length.

Cheers. Andrew.

I bet those fine details were a bit too fine for me to see at the modest magnifications I was using.

Thanks Andrew.
