June 20 - HA & WL
Seeing was better in the morning (luckily when I took these images) - visual still splendid but not as good as Fri 17 wrt seeing. The WL is w the ETX125 but w solar continuum filter instead of the long pass - the long pass is much better at freezing seeing.
Cheers

Thanks Franco, that's v kind. I'm a bit perturbed by the grid pattern - I've heard about that with some 178MM chips so will have to research what the consequences of that are. Ah well.

Re: June 20 - HA & WL
Hi
What scope and mount are you using for the Ha?
If it is an EQ mount you could try moving the mount off polar alignment, this will cause some drift in the exposure, then when you stack your images the grid pattern wont be in the same place on each frame and the pattern will disappear.
The key here is to get the drift right for the exposure time sometimes if your exposure times are fast enough just turning the drive off whilst imaging may work.
Cheers Rod

Re: June 20 - HA & WL
Thanks Maurits, that's v kind. Rod that's ingenious - the equivalent of dithering for DSOs! The scope is a little old TV76 (the single-speed focuser version so quite a few yrs old!), and yes you got it for those shots I had them mounted side by side on my DSO EQ mount (an old Avalon, the now discontinued synscan version). I don't really want to mess w the polar alignment but I think in synscan I can change the tracking speed away from solar which would make it drift. I use an old USB2 laptop so it can take up to 5 mins to get the images (depending on how many I'm going for) so the sun may have drifted completely out. Alternatively I can just an old alt-az tracking mount (which is what I normally do & perhaps that's the reason why I haven't noticed that grid pattern before b/c the alt-az doesn't hold a target as precisely as the EQ mount). Thanks!
