June 21 2022 Observations. Summer Solstice!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time is from 16:45 until 17:30 UTC. Partly cloudy with below average seeing. 84F ( 28.8C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
Today I see ten active regions on the Ha solar disc! Five of these in the north are numbered systems. Three systems are seen in the south. One is numbered.

Two disturbances are seen in the NE quadrant. Both take some examination to find/see. One is NE of an easy U shaped filament. Two more easy filaments are seen further NE. AR13038 now in the NW quadrant is easy to see as a plage with a couple of fine filaments and spots. I can see a couple of smaller plage fragments just east of the main system. AR13034 can be seen as a spot and slight plage almost on the equator but mostly in part in the NW quadrant. AR13030-32 can be seen as plages with AR13030 being hard to see almost on the limb. The big filament emanating from AR13032 is very easy and sweeps far NE of the active region complex. AR13033 is just a brighter area under a small but easily seen filament.

Two plages are seen in the SE quadrant. One has a spot that I cannot easily see unless I tune off band a bit. An easy thin bent filament is seen just east of the CLM. AR13035 is seen as a plage in the SW quadrant. A small filament is seen SE of it and others are seen SW of it.

I notice proms on the NE, NW and SW limb. An easy fuzzy pyramid is seen on the NE limb. It was yesterday's " Tent Prom ". The SW limb has a nice active surge prom. In the 45min I observed I could see a considerable change in form and detail.

The mottles are seen across the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x. ( WL )
I can see nine areas on the WL disc today. Six in the north with four being numbered. Three are visible in the south with one being numbered.

Two patches of faculae are visible in the NE quadrant. A single dark tiny pore is visible in the northernmost one. AR13038 is a nice spot group to observe being a scattering of sizeable penumbra bearing spots. I see fewr pores there than I did yesterday. AR13034 SW of AR13038 appears as a single oval spot bearing umbra and penumbra. I can see a single nice spot associated with AR13032 in the far NW. It shows both umbra and penumbra. East of these I can see two harder to see spots that are best seen at 62.5x. One is very close to the limb and is associated with AR13030. Faculae pervades the region.

Almost due south of AR13034 lies AR13035 in the SW quadrant. It's seen as a small spot among a smattering of pores. The SE quadrant shows a facula without any visible spots or pores. NE of it near the limb is an emerging new system! Here I see a structured ( Showing umbra and penumbra ) fair sized spot amid faculae.

The fine granulation is visible but soft.

Happy Summer Solstice!! Carpe Lumen! Seize and enjoy the light for now the Sun reverses and we head towards Winter.

James

Thanks James, you were observing just before me. The sun is putting on a fine show for us at the moment.

I'm imaging that big filament/filaprom at the moment. That guy is hugging the surface! Not a lot exposed above the limb yet.

I am imaging today myself but with little progress.
