Hi,

That filament in the Northwestern hemispehre is approximately 269,000 km long ~ 167,000 miles :shock:

Rainer,
I noticed this filament visually today but never really thought about it's size. How long it really was. Most features on the Sun are beyond everyday experience in size compared to our modest Earth scales. It would take a jumbo jet more than a week non stop to fly the length of that filament!!

After reading your comment I did take again a look at the image and wondered how it would look a 747 flying a week long over that filament ...

299 hours ~ 12.5 days, taking a cruising speed of 900 km/h :lol: :lol: :lol:
