Hi,
what kind of Herschel wedge would you recommend for imaging only use with my C9.25 (with D-ERF)?
Is there a benefit of 2" versions like Baader or APM in comparison to 1.25" versions?
I already have a 2" Lumicon OIII Filter that i want to use with the wedge, so i guess the 2" APM Version is suitable?
Since i already have the energy reduction D-ERF coating of the scope i would like to go a more economic direction.
Thanks
Dennis

Hello Dennis,
Since you have a D-ERF, there is no need for an Herschel wedge. Just use your OIII filter.
This being said, if your Lumicon OIII was designed for visual observation, you will also need a IR-cut filter.

I would go 2", you have better thermal loading.Dennis wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:10 pm Hi,

I would recommend a wedge that you can remove the ND filters from so that you can get the shortest possible exposure time.

Re: Which Herschel Wedge with C9.25?
Thanks Mark, i was wondering if i need a 2" since about 90% of the heat is taken off with the D-ERF.
@Christian: i checked again and i noticed that the Airylab Hat has a different erf-bandpass then the baader triband. My triband has actually a ~50nm window around 500nm. Im wondering if it might be too much energy for the OIII or the camera without any prefiltering. Im not sure.

Hello Denis,
Are you using a C9.25 with a D-ERF or a Triband C9.25 ?

Good morning Christian, christian viladrich wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 5:57 pm Hello Denis,

im using a Triband C9.25, im now imaging in whitelight, with the configuration like you said. It works nicely and nothing seems to burn
I decided to use my baader 10nm OIII (visual) Filter first, so far it works well.
Thanks again for the info.
Dennis

Re: Which Herschel Wedge with C9.25?
Hi, just a novice question. What is the usage of the OIII filter in this setup? Is it commonly used in Herschel wedge setups?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Which Herschel Wedge with C9.25?
Hi, its to get more contrast in whitelight imaging. An OIII has its window at around 500nm but it is only ~10 nm wide. The narrower the bandpass, the higher the expected contrast.Firochromis wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 9:27 pm Hi, just a novice question. What is the usage of the OIII filter in this setup? 500nm is not as seeing demanding as 390nm, thats why its more popular i guess. I dont know if its popular with Herschel setups, but i dont think its "exotic". But since most OIII filters are for visual use they usually come in a 2" format. And for to use this you either need a 2" Herschel or adapter to use it.
