Re: my first hbeta with open slit
this is not bad at all :
Could you send me a shematic of your spectroscope ? I think i could look at it and help you to improve it ( if you are interested of course .)

Re: my first hbeta with open slit
hmmmm ,
i wouldnt use a 50mm diam 300 mm imaging lens : it means you have a factor k= 1.5x ; that means the final image will be bigger but fainter (less light) . That could explain loss of contrast and loss of sharpness a bit. and it'll limit the range of eyepieces you can use if you want to watch live.
f/D=12 isnt bad what camera are you using? have you calculated your sampling rate ? I can do it for you if you give me the camera brand model (i'll will find the pixel size). I wonder if you're not oversampling your prominences image ..
and with some thinking i would even say that a pair of binoculars objectives lens (30 mm diam 135mm f) could be much better : you might gain more light. What size grating do you have ?

Re: my first hbeta with open slit
I can u a shorter 50mmX200MM F4 imaging scope
I thought bigger was better
i use either zwo asi290mm or asi178mm
grating is 1200lpmm 35mmX35mm
