A couple of full disks from July 3

Post by gabrieli »

These are 2 image mosaics using an LS60F front filter on an LS60MT scope + 2.3X Baader casting an image on an ASI1600
camera. This combination is a better fit than a similarly scaled image on an LS80T.

The LS60MT only comes with a clamshell with a 1/4 by 20 camera tripod screw, a very unstable arrangement as configured above and when the scope is tilted on its side as it will be most of the time. Since the tube diameters on my LS80T and my LS60MT are the same (90mm), I temporarily switched the rings/D dovetail from my LS80 to my LS60MT until the 90mm rings and 11 inch dovetail arrive for the LS60MT. In this arrangement, the LS60MT feels a bit heavy but very solid.

Amazing prominences! How did you bring those out so well whilst still preserving excellent disc detail?

Hi, Athornett

Once I stitched the two panels for this image together, I worked on the entire image as a unit. Sometimes I select out the disk into its own layer to process it and the prom layer separately to make the work easier but in this case, I took a shorter path by processing the entire image as a whole.

I use Shadows/Highlights to bring out the proms (with moderation)curves curves to bring the detail out in the disc if necessary. Play with all the sliders in Shadows/Highlights and do the same with curves. If you don't like an effect you can always go back. I can't give specific values for the settings since that depends on the image.

I hope that helps a bit.

Lou
