5.7.2022 AR3046 / 51 closeups in WL

Post by Dennis »

Something of the latest WL imaging tests:
With the help of 2 stacked 3x tv barlows I tried to push the C9 towards F/60. Since its in the uv-spectrum at ~ 380nm (Baader U filter) the resolution still has some breathing room. Seeing was good/average, with lucky imaging i managed some shots that showed quite some detail.
I know, scts are not made for uv, but nevertheless its fun and im curious about doing this with good / very good seeing conditions.

Is it just me or does it look like parts of the granules are falling into the sunspot on the north/west site?

Stacks of best 10 of 1600 images each (109 fps).

Thanks for looking
Dennis

Interesting results Dennis, what does an unprocessed image look like?

Wow!! I don't get anything half as good as that from my C11. I need to download that unprocessed image and practice my processing as I have no idea how you extracted that. I always knew my processing skills aren't good

Actually i think i made a mistake.. i wanted to get F/60, but what i used was 2 stacked 3x barlows..
that would result in F/90, correct? That would be crazy.. how can this work..
The mount was definitive at its limit with keeping the sunspot in the center of the image.

Crazy trials are fun, but i'd back off the barlowing a bit for day to day use. Lack of definition in the penumbral fibrils in the raw file suggest seeing was around 1", much less than system resolution. All that glass is not good down in the blue either.

True, now that i hit the boundaries of the setup i will go back a bit for sure. But it seems this magnification works for days of very good seeing.
Im so curious to image the new active area thats coming around now. Bigger sunspots, more details..

I try to use barlows and not powermates for that reason. The good thing is that even that amount of glass didnt bring down the light flux too much. I still could image with using almost no gain.
