Big protuberance in CaK from the 10th of July 2022.

Post by eroel »

Hi:
Today cloudy but got the Sun through holes before lunch.
Was lucky to use the 3 scopes at the home observatory, but I have just started to process the session a few minutes ago, BTW this FD taken in CaK striked me when I saw that big protuberance, so wanted to show it to you too.
Hope that tomorrow I will terminate processing the session.
Thanks for looking.
Have a nice starting week.
Eric.

Hi:
Here are more CaK shots with the big prom, though they were taken in different compositions so to try to get some changes as the prom grew.
Found that if placed the FD off center I had a cleaner image of the prom.
The funny thing, is that I started as usual with the Solarmax 90 in Ha, then changed to the Stellarvue with the old Daystar and finally go to the CaK setup.
So when I was recording in Ha I did not see that fantastic prom as it showed in the CaK session.
Thanks for looking and keep safe.
Eric.

These are incredible Eric! The prom does indeed show detail a bit with the CaK disc a bit off center. I wonder why?

James:
It is because the CaK etalons have a deviation from parallelism, as also the Ha etalons have. (Parallelism relative to the original focal plane of the telescope).
Best regards.
Eric.
