Focus confusion

Post by rbenton »

Hello all!
I have been gone for quite a while, but since the Sun is so active now I have dusted off my Lunt LS100 to try some imaging. It took me a couple days to find all the pieces to assemble everything, and to remind myself how it all works. I finally fired up Firecapture and located the sun but I have one last problem to solve. I am imaging with a ZWO ASI1600 straight from the focuser and I cannot achieve focus. It is not even close. I think I need to fine tune the distance between the focuser and the sensor using extension tubes, but by how much? I would certainly appreciate if anyone can help me get this last bit resolved. I promise to post my results.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Randall,

Post a picture of your scope showing the camera attached.

One thought, how far out is the nose of your BF?

Hi Randall!

How long is a piece of string?

Just try a number of extension tubes till you can focus. Are you using a 2" diagonal with the camera and scope?

Mark

To Mark’s point….trial and error should get you there.
