2 hr white light timelapse AR3055
Hi all,
Had fun with this 2 hour WL timelapse featuring sunspot AR3055 shown at 3 different speeds (4x10fps, 2x & 1.5x).
Quality lost at so many points in the process but it at least shows a bit of movement!
20220710 0707-0907 UT in York, UK
1.25” Lunt Solar Herschel White Light Wedge, Skywatcher 80 ED DS Pro, UV-IR filter, Solar continuum filter, Celestron AVX, FlatCap, 2x barlow, ASI174MM.
150x 7% of 30s stacked in AS!2 Processed in ImPGG & GIMP.
All the best,
Nic

That's great Nic and your drawings are awesome! That image really becomes sharp when you zoomed out from the closeup.

Re: 2 hr white light timelapse AR3055
Thanks Warren, yes it's zoomed in too far for my equipment really but I'm still on a learning curve with huge data files so tried to reduce the size of the files with a rather dramatic crop! I took too many frames of 16 bit SER, used too many stacking points & did too much faffing generally. In doing this timelapse I learn that the effort to get more detail initially is not really worth what I lose further down the line! I'm happy to overdo the effort for images as the huge files and faffing are worth it for the final image with my mid range equipment!
Onwards and upwards...
Nic

WoW. Nice work!! I was impressed with the sketches the most of all. Did you draw them at the scope or later from the photos you took? Either way they are outstanding!

Re: 2 hr white light timelapse AR3055
Thanks Franco and James.
A little of my motivation for detailed WL work I must confess is frustration of being in the fourth month of waiting for my CaK Module to arrive and my second year of four saving for a decent h alpha scope!! 'Be grateful for what you DO have' is my mantra but I'm currently hanging on to that by the 'skin of my teeth'!
When I set a timelapse recording, I sit and sketch what I see on the monitor in real time. Each time I practice, I learn something new. This time, for example, I thought I'd got the overall scale of the second sketch very wrong when I compared it to the first but when I processed the images I found that the distance between the two larger spots had changed quite a bit... although maybe not as much as my sketch suggested! I also noticed that I could 'read' the change in the 'seeing' more intuitively as the temperature was rising and the details were less clear.

Nic,
It is amazing how fast solar features do change. Unless one can sketch accurate and fast you'll get left dragging behind. I certainly can't do accurate and fast simultaneously.

Wow!! I really enjoyed this, I think the most difference is the merge between first and last frame, you can really see the stretch but then came the sketches
