July 26 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time was from 15:04 until 16:07 UTC. Intermittent. Mostly cloudy with what appears to be above average seeing. The temperature is 80F ( 26.6C ). Humid.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
Today I got nine active regions in the Ha chromosphere. Four in the northern hemisphere with two having numbers and five in the southern hemisphere with four having numbers and one unnumbered.

I can see two plages in the NE quadrant that lie almost side by side. The NW quadrant shows the plages of AR13064 ( E ) and AR13063 ( W ). AR13060 is on the limb and is invisible but it can be seen kicking up some proms there. A couple of filaments can be seen NNE of AR13063.

The SE quadrant shows four active regions. The westernmost is the low contrast plage of AR13059 which is a bit hard to see. SE of it is the easier AR13065 which shows some spots/tiny filaments within it's plage. Just east of it lies a somewhat lower contrast unnumbered plage. Just west of the CLM lies AR13062 which shows a double plage with a spot between them. This time the plage is not following the spot! A long filament is seen SSE of the spot. Another is seen SW of the spot and two smaller ones further SSE. A smaller plage ( AR13066 ) is seen NE of AR13062 in the SE quadrant. A couple of filaments are seen SSE of it.

Even in double stack I can see all the proms shown on the GONG BBSO Ha image. The NW limb shows a bright fat loop prom, or half doughnut prom. It appears as a fuzzy dome with a small hole or void low center. Just above the equator I can see some prom activity being kicked up by the now on the limb AR13060. The larger fainter southern part has a round void in the middle! Three small proms lie on the SW limb. Two small proms lie on the SE limb. The eastern limb has a fairly bright prom that is shaped somewhat like an animal raising it's head out of the solar sea swimming southward. It too has a couple of small voids. A faint small triangular prom is seen on the NE limb.

The mottles are seen across the solar disc today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
Nine regions are seen on the WL photosphere today. Four in the north with three being numbered and five in the south with four being numbered.

An unnumbered but easy facula is seen in the NE quadrant. I can see a fuzzy spot in it's western section. High definition SDO HMIc images show it as two close together spots with a tiny pore east of them. I can see three areas of disturbance in the NW quadrant. I can see faint faculae associated with AR13064. SDO HMIc picks up three pores here within the faculae. I cannot see them. Just NW of AR13064 I can see AR13063. I see it as fairly bright faculae connecting to the visible faculae close to the limb that is associated with AR13060. SDO HMI continuum high rez images show a couple of small pores in AR13063 but I cannot see them visually.

South of AR13060 very near the SW limb I see the single spot and SE trailing faculae of AR13059. Along with AR13060, AR13059 will be on the limb tomorrow. AR13060 will probably be entirely invisible but the faculae of AR13059 may still show up on the scope at the SW limb. Well SE of AR13059 lies AR13065. I can count 6 spots/pores in this group. All surrounded by faint faculae. AR13062 is seen as a spot with a single tiny pore to it's SW. I can easily see both the umbra and penumbra to it's fair-sized spot. To the NE of AR13062 across the CLM in the SE quadrant I can see three spots/pores, maybe 4 associated with AR13066. A faint patch of faculae is seen near the SE limb.

Very fine granulation is visible across the solar disc today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

It was. A little more magnification would have helped on the SMII90 but still the SMII60 gave a nice view.

James.
