Sun in Continuum 19th of July 2022

Post by arnedanielsen »

Dear friends,

I've finally managed to process the continuum image from last Tuesday (July 19th).

The images was obtained using a Celestron 9.25" SC XLT with a full-size photographic solar filter. I actually made a sequence of recordings in an attempt to make a continuum timelapse, but the seeing was just not stable/good enough for this and I just ended up processing a few selected still images.

I tried imaging at both the native focallength of 2350mm and with a Coronado CeMax 2x barlow which should give 1.83x and ~4300mm at the attached position. The first resulting in a slight undersampling with the Player One Mars-M and the latter a slight oversampling. I have to find a good solution to bring the fl somewhere in the range of 2500-3800mm.

Anyhow, below are the results under mediocre seeing.

Thank you very much Warren, Jordan, Alexandra, Maurits, Mark and Stu!

The poor seeing made it really challenging to focus, but taking a lot of recordings a few of them came out ok. Hoping for better seeing next time around.

Best regards,
Arne

This event was great. I am convinced that this is one of the most important events when it comes to the activity of the sun in the last style.
