First Peek 8/2/2022

Post by rigel123 »

Just waiting for the sun to climb high enough to get out of the leaves of my Crabapple Tree (which I am thinking of removing!) Now if I could only get rid of these pesky cirrus clouds!

Keeping my eye on that western limb but the clouds are getting even thicker!

Your "crab apple" appears to have a very large prom on the western limb.
I'm still wondering how you managed to get both in sharp focus at the same time. :bow

The prom was peeking through a gap in the leaves! Things have deteriorated a bit too!

I do see an edge of clear sky in the west so hopefully sometime those clouds will move away. (wishful thinking!)

"Wishful thinking" seems to be an international delusion where sun obscuring clouds are concerned. ;)

Just for fun I ran some captures before everything got totally obscured (still waiting for the blue patch so just processed this all at the scope!) and got these two brief animations of the large prom and activity on the Western Limb. Amazing what you can catch through a bunch of cirrus clouds! BTW, I find that the new laptop allows ImPPG to do a great job of alignment now!

That little patch on the west is bubbling away!

The eastern proms are looking nice too, they should be visible as filaments this time next week if they hang around.

Warren,
I was hoping you got the big NE prom. I imaged it too just a short time ago. The animation looks nice!

Thanks all, that patch of blue never materialized. We have what the weather folks call “filtered sunshine”! Maybe tomorrow will be better. I just noticed looking more closely at the activity on that west limb it looks like a small post flare loop in the midst of all those surge spikes.

Thanks Arne and Alexandra! I just posted my only shot of that prom this morning before the clouds denied me Alexandra! I went ahead and made an animation from the Gong images though so I at least have a record of it!
