Big prom is almost gone 8/4/2022

Post by rigel123 »

I did a very quick set up this morning as I did not expect that large NE prom to last much longer so I was able to catch 2 images before the clouds rolled in and about an hour later (13:00 UTC) the big one started lifting off. Thunder around now so with little else to do I did some screen captures of the images from the El Teide Gong Site to keep an animation of the lift off which has been taking over 4 hours at this point! Someone could get a great widefield shot of that big prom floating well above the surface about now since it is mostly out of the FOV of the GONG site.

Great disk and closeup of the prom, Warren. I see a soul in the middle of the prom tortured by the incandescent plasma...

It’s nearing its end of life I think.

Thanks Maurits, Franco, and James! Great description Franco, I can see that soul now! You are right James, I just checked the Cerro Tololo site and there is just a thin floating prom left of that monster.

Fabulous Warren :bow :hamster: it looked like a slow drifting away rather than a dramatic lift off, which was good as it gave people more time all over the world to enjoy it.

Thanks Alexandra! Yes, it did take a long time to finally float away.
