August 8 2022 Observations. Promy limb!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time was from 15:00 to 16:20 UTC. The skies were mostly clear with fair/average seeing degrading to below average by session's end. The temperature was 81F ( 27.2C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 25x and 33x ( Ha )
Today I can make out ten areas of disturbance in the Ha chromosphere. Five in the northern hemisphere with two bearing numbers. Five are also visible in the southern hemisphere with four of these bearing NOAA numbers.

Three plages are seen in the NE quadrant. AR13075 ( middle ) AR13076 ( South ) and an unnumbered plage ( North ). I did not notice the spot of AR13076 at all. Small filaments lie NE of the active regions. Just west of the CLM lies a pale but not difficult scattered plage which resides under/around a sharply bowed thin filament. West of it another pale plage is seen.

The SE quadrant shows two plages which being to two receding active regions. They appear more as rough disturbances than true plages. The northern one belongs to AR13072 and the southern one belongs to AR13073. They will be gone in mere hours. A tiny hourglass shaped filament lies well NE of AR13072. AR13071 is seen on the south-central part of the disc at/near the CLM. It's a scattered plage with a visible spot. Two filaments are seen SSE of the spot, one trailing away from the spot well south of the region. The brightest regions of the plage follow the spot. AR13074 lies in the SE quadrant and shows bright plage east of a lone spot. A thin wavy filament is barely seen SE of the spot. A much easier filament is seen between it and AR13071.

Even in doublestack I can see nearly all of the prominences shown on the GONG Cerro Tololo Ha image though some are quite faint. Just above the equator on the eastern limb lies a bright triplet of proms. The bottom one has an almost flat top and is nearly separated from the disc. Early in the session two thin legs connected it to the disc. By the end of the session I could only see the northern leg connecting it. The northernmost of the three proms curves south like a wave going north! North of these proms lies a bright wide conical prom with a void low center. I notice a fairly tall faint prom on the NW limb that looks like a faint lick of flame. The far SW shows a fairly large faint prom that I can pick up some mottling within. It's not easy to see in DS. More smaller proms are seen on the western limb.

The mottling is seen across the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
Today I can see nine regions in continuum. Three in the northern hemisphere ( NE quad ) with two of these having numbers. six systems are visible in the southern hemisphere with four of these having numbers.

In the NE quadrant AR13076 ( South ) shows a structured spot with a raggedy penumbra to the SE. Faculae surrounds the spot. I see no other spots or pores here. NW of AR13076 lies AR13075. It's a patch of faculae with two pores at it's SW end. North of it lies an unnumbered patch of faculae with a single pore. SDO HMI shows three. I see nothing in the NW quadrant.

The SE quadrant shows two receding active regions. AR13073 ( South ) shows a single spot among faculae. AR13072 ( North ) shows a barely visible pore among faculae. At the end of the session I find a faint patch of faculae NE of AR13072. SDO HMIc shows a couple of pores there but the seeing has degraded noticeably since session beginning and I cannot see them. AR13071 shows itself only as a single spot. The umbra and penumbra are easily seen. I think I can hint a light bridge within it at 62.5x but I am unsure of it. AR13074 in the SE quadrant shows itself as a single spot showing umbra and penumbra with faculae to the SE. Within that spot I can see a light bridge on the eastern side of the umbra at 62.5x. I can even see a tiny pore embedded in the penumbra to the NE of the umbra at the beginning of the session when the seeing was better.

The granulation is clearly visible at session beginning but not even noticeable by session's end.

Carpe Lumen!!

James

Yes Mark they are quiet. We need a little flare activity!

The TV will have to be replaced and the cable repairman is coming tomorrow. I’ll probably have to get a new modem/router. The iPhone’s hotspot has kept my computer online capable though. It makes a great backup!!
