August 9 2022 Imaging Session

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My imaging time was from between 15:30 to 16:13 UTC. Mostly clear skies at first then clouding up rapidly. Variable seeing. 84F ( 28.8C )

The equipment used is the SMII60 DS and the Orion70 with the PGR Grasshopper camera using ASTRO IIDC and GIMP on the MacBook Pro. I used the 540nm filter with the PGR camera on the Orion70.

The Ha images aren't that great but I was really satisfied with the continuum image. The embedded pore in the spot of AR13074 can be seen easily if viewed full size!

Carpe Diem!

James

Thanks everyone and Steven the storage shed for the Losmandy mount works ok. I do have a plastic tub I sometimes use for a shade too. I am gonna have to buy me one of those lightweight shades I often see people here use.

One thing I really like about the screen of the MacBook is that it has a no-glare almost matt surface. It doesn't reflect everything it faces back at you. I can almost use my Toshiba computer's screen as a mirror!!

:hamster: these are really great James :bow :hamster: do you see in the top image that you are on band on the left and not on the right, if you move the Sun to the left you will get the Sun on band all the way across. It doesn't matter that the Sun is not in the centre of the camera chip, you can crop the image later to square it up :)

True!! I have a bad habit of trying to center the sun on the chip. Thanks for the advice Alexandra. Doublestack always seems to be more challenging for me to get an evenly tuned and illuminated disc.

Thanks Mark!

Solbrillante,
My setup is simple. No tracking at all here. I have to use really short 300 frame MOV or AVI movies or single frame captures. Otherwise the stacking software cannot line up the images. The setup is fine for visual use.
