August 10 2022 Observations. WL through clouds.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session was a very brief one through thin clouds in an overcast sky around 17:00 UTC. The temperature is 78F ( 25.5C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x ( WL )
I can see five spot groups on the WL photosphere. One in the northern hemisphere that has an NOAA number and four in the southern hemisphere with three of these having NOAA numbers.

AR13076 is visible in the NE quadrant and shows both an umbra and a penumbra in it's single spot.

The SE quadrant shows but a single small spot. AR13074 now nearing the CLM shows a single spot showing an umbra and a penumbra. AR13077 across the CLM in the SW quadrant shows two spots. Just WSW of it lies the single well formed spot of AR13071 which shows both it's umbra and penumbra.

I cannot make out any faculae today through the clouds. No granulation seen either.

James

Thanks James, clear here all week, but with the caveat of another heat wave so only really possible to observe for a couple of hours in the mornings.

Eric,
It's not looking good here for Thursday either. Today was cloudy and I barely got this basic observation off. Good luck on sunnier skies for you.

Mark,
Do early. The seeing will be better then anyway. You could go on the boat and jump off for a cooldown!

As soon as the sun has cleared the rooftops I will be imaging JAmes, and, are actually nipping up to the boat later on this afternoon for an hour to take some bits and pieces up. Definitely won't be jumping in the canal though, the water is most definitely not safe for swimming - Weil's disease (Leptospirosis) https://www.rospa.com/leisure-water-saf ... ls-disease - don't fancy a dose of that! :D

Good luck on imaging Mark. You'll be doing CaK I bet!

I have never heard of this disease but looking it up I also see it's found here in the SE US too. I have been in a lot of water around here in my life but haven't gotten it. I don't know anyone who has but that doesn't mean it isn't here. Like you I certainly don't want it. It has some serious complications!

Be safe, have fun and do more CaK!

James
