Arne,
I know solar imaging is not a competitive sport but these kick ass!! The Ha disc shows exquisite details and the colorized one is gorgeous to the eye. The CaK disc is wonderful too and again I prefer the colored one. I imaged white light today and I with compliments and admiration say that you easily kicked my butt. The WL image is wonderfully sharp and shows the spots and granulation very well. That 80mm scope did great! You used a 540nm filter, right?

Two thumbs up!! 👍🏻 👍🏻 I’ll drink a toast to you on these!! 🍻

James

P.S. I'll post my images shortly.

To relate these nice images to another discussion thread ("Is imaging the sun still within reach?" viewtopic.php?t=37525, I think Arne's almost daily imaging using the same equipment setup, and not even particularly exorbitant apparatus, demonstrates that practice is worth a lot. I think the "occasional imager" should not be discouraged and think it's impossible to improve.

Agreed! This would apply to visual observing as well. I am an almost daily visual observer and an occasional imager. " Practice makes perfect " is the old saying though I think perfection is rarely if ever achieved. There is always room for improvement whether in visual or in photographic solar astronomy.

Thank you very much James!

Solar imaging is certainly not a compitation, but I do find lots of inspiration in seeing what others can achieve with both similar and different equipment and makes me strive to improve my own results.

WL image is done with the 80mm at full aperture with a Herschel Wedge and Baader 540nm Continuum filter.

Arne
