Hello All
I have been Lurking for a while, trying rather unsuccessfully, to Image the sun with a PST after my night time imaging was ruined by a neighbour cutting down seven trees to allow the South London light pollution into my garden.
I have been looking at Ha solar images for a while so finally bought the Quark chromosphere. I am using it with an Startravel 80 and have taken one image so far. It needs some improvement but at least its a start.
Iam hoping to glean some help from you guys and maybe at some time add some of my own.
I will post the image very soon.

Re: Hello All
Mike,
I recognize it! It's AR13078 and it's neighboring filament. Nice job!
For many of us solar observing and imaging is a great alternative to keep the wonder of astronomy alive under ever brightening skies.
Welcome to SolarChat.

Re: Hello All
I started imaging as an extension to my passion for photography. At the moment all I know is that I have taken an image of part of the Sun.
I will need to read up on it to find out what you are talking about.

Re: Hello All
A very warm and sunny welcome Mike welcome to the light side
What a great first image are you enjoying the visual too?
If you want plenty of tips I am sure we will all have millions one thing I would say is investigate all the dial settings on your Quark, don't leave it in the default position. It is very much worth the time and effort to do this as you will get to know the Quark and the Sun at the same time. What you are looking for is maximum contrast and surface detail like filaments etc. Check out GONG before you start and see where these filaments should be and try to get the Quark to show you them https://gong2.nso.edu/products/tableVie ... hAlpha.cfg
Have lots of fun and keep solarchatting

Re: Hello All
Oh yes and I forgot to say, Registax wavelets are terrible for the solar surface, they are designed for the dark side. You will have much better results using ImPPG for sharpening instead which is designed for the Sun and works great on the Moon too https://greatattractor.github.io/imppg/

Re: Hello All
I used to think that way too, then I discovered the ProPlanet 642 BP filter. You can get some quite surprisingly good images of galaxies and such even from the worse light polluted locations. See my post from last year: viewtopic.php?t=32235.marktownley wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 12:34 pm I can't really do night time stuff with all the light pollution here too.
Also, planets are always bright enough no matter what the light pollution.

Re: Hello All
Thanks everyone for the really warm welcome.
The Weather for the next few days is forecast for rain and clouds.
Oh Well, I supposed I shall have to get back to replacing the garden fence that's not been touched for the last month or so.
