Red Kite Flyby 23rd August 2022 , Newmarket UK.

Post by steveward53 »

Was waiting for the Spitfire to appear over the trees ( could hear his Merlin growling from miles away ) when this fella kinda distracted me :)

Knocked up a quick animation in Moviemaker of the 20 odd frames.

WAS "SuperMarine Spitfire P7350, built at Castle Bromwich in 1940 and delivered to 6 Maintenance Unit in August that year.

Spitfire P7350 joined the BBMF. It is still flying with that Flight today, as the only airworthy example of its' type that actually flew and fought in the Battle of Britain in 1940."

WAS TEMPORARILY BASED AT SOUTHEND AIRPORT THROUGHOUT THIS AUGUST WEEKEND ALONG WITH PA474/LANCASTER AND TWO TYPHOON JETS - FOR THE EASTOURNE AND FOLKSTONE AIR DISPLAYS., ALONG WITH THE 7-AIRCRAFT "RED ARROWS" DISPLAY TEAM.

ALL TRACKED ON EACH OF THE DISPLAY-DAYS AND ALSO THE "RED ARROWS" DEPARTED SOUTHEND AIRPORT AND FLEW DIRECTLY OVER MY HOIME AT JUST 200-FEET AGL IN FOUR GROUPS, EN-ROUTE BACK TO THEIR BASE AT RAF SCAMPTON (EARLY EVENING OF 21-8-2022).

HIGH SPEED AND VERY NOISY, BUT AT LEAST THAT WAS OUR PRIVILEGE TO SUCH A FLYPAST OVER MY HOME!!!

ALL FLIGHTS TRACKED ON RADAR - FROM HERE...

CLACTON AIRSHOW (ESSEX) ON 25TH/26TH AUGUST DUE THIS WEEK TOO.

Thanks for that info Terry ,

I assumed he was out of Duxford as I get regular visits from aircraft from there either on maintenance flights or 'practising' for airshows , came from that general direction.

Didn't show up on Flightradar here ( which I regularly have running tracking the noisier cousins out of Lakenheath ) as I suspect he was too low to be picked up ?

P7350 YOU SAW, ROUTED FROM SOUTHEND VIA A PRIVATE DISPLAY AT INGATSTONE/ESSEX, WEST OF CHELMSFORD, EAST OF DUXFORD AT 15:08Z/ UTC/GMT /1800', @ 173KNOTS/190MPH APROX, THEN NEAR TO CAMBRIDGE, PETERBOROUGH , THEN TO LAND AT RAF CONINGSBY AT 15:31Z...
21-8-2022 REFERS...

DEPENDING STEVE, ON YOUR LOCATION AND THE ACTUAL TIME OF YOUR CAPTURES, THIS IS LIKELY TO BE ONE AND THE SAME AIRCRAFT, BUT ALSO NOTED THE SAME DAY - AT LEAST TWO OTHER SPITFIRES OPERATING IN THE SOUTH-EAST OF ENGLAND AS WELL AS POSSIBLY ONE OR MORE FROM/TO DUXFORD..

I SAW P7350 ON DEPARTURE FROM SOUTHEND, BUT WAS AT 2,000' HEADING N.W TOWARDS INGATESTONE FOR THE SMALL DISPLAY THERE AT 15:00Z.

BEST WISHES AND A GREAT BIRDY-SHOT, BUT PERHAPS ALEXANDRA CAN/WILL ID THE TYPE ???

REGARDS
TERRY

It's 'my' Red Kite , visits the garden every morning to see if I've left him/her a rat or squirrel for breakfast ...

When I get the HD plugged in again I'll check the time on the Spitfire snaps , could see no sign of it on Flightradar at the time.

THANKS STEVE ON THE KITE INFO.

POSSIBLY AS P7350 IS AN RAF AIRCRAFT/MILITARY, THEN IT MAY NOT APPEAR ON SOME INTERNET PROGS AS A LILITARY FLIGHT, COMPARED TO
https://global.adsbexchange.com WHICH IS FREELY AVAILABLE....

Such a super bird to see Steve, you are so very lucky indeed. I spend my life trying to spot these birds when I travel down south.

I spent my youth raising money by doing lots of sponsored events in the 1980's to raise money to fund the re-introduction programme. I feel very satisfied they are doing so well and I played my part. I only wish they would breed a bit more and spread their wings up north :)
