2022 08 29 Sun H alpha

Post by Arrakis97 »

Hello everybody. :)
This morning the sun in H alpha exhibited considerable activity at the level of prominences. The seeing was 3/5: the moments of best visibility correspond to the presence of a light breeze:

Thx a lot Mark for your evaulation; :bow

i bought the SSM some time ago, but i have few time for test.
I use my terrace on the seventh floor of a building inserted in a residential park. The house is located at the confluence of the Reno river valley with the plain, in a very windy position; often even in summer it is not possible to dine on the terrace due to the strong wind. Usually the ideal conditions in summer are those with a light or medium breeze that prevents the atmosphere from "boiling" deteriorating the seeing. In these conditions the seeing remains good even until around 12 - 13.

On the 29th, as I am used to, the conditions were good but not optimal; up to now, as a measure of the quality of the filming, I use the quality parameter of the report compiled by Autostackert; values of 500,000 or more indicate good image quality; on the 29th the average was about 400,000; in some optimal days I have detected values of 850,000.

Below is the Autostakkert screenshot for the NOAA 13089 photo above;

ImageAutostakkert App by Emil Kraaikamp for NOAA 13089 by Carlo Casoli, su Flickr

I also add a copy of the Autostakkert report showing a Median quality 611037 ; as far as i know it is good value.

ImageAutostakkert Report for NOAA 13089 by Carlo Casoli, su Flickr

Since I am considering dusting off my old Marcon SC 10 "for solar observations, it is important for me to understand if the values detected by SSM are good and if they will allow me to use this instrument profitably. I would be grateful if you would indicate the optimal range of values for the SSM report.
Thank you a lot for you help for increase the quality of my image.
Carlo

Thx a lot Alexandra for your Kind comment on the animation. :bow :bow

Even outside of Solarchat it often happens that friends can't easily view my videos on Flickr, I think because they are not registered.
So I'm not sure if the problem won't recur on Solarchat. I also tried to upload the videos to Astrobin, where they are not allowed; I often see animations on Solarchat that start by themselves as soon as they are displayed but I don't know in what format and in what way they are loaded; I also tried to generate the movie as an animated gif but the resulting files are huge (600 Mega bytes) and cannot be uploaded to Flickr. I would be grateful if you could point me to a better alternative to Flickr
Thank you
Carlo

Carlo,
In Photoshop, in the animation pane choose 'forever' to loop it continuously. When saving the animated gif choose 'save for web and devices' Then resize the animation to say 1000 pixels in size. This reduces the size a bit. Then upload this to Flickr. It will not run in Flickr in the preview pane, it will only run when you view the 'original' photo size. When you add the BB code to Solarchat make sure you pick 'original' and copy that code. It will then run in the forum automatically.

I hope this helps a bit?

Thx James :)
When I saw the prominences i was afraid that, as has happened before, something like a speck of dust would ruin the animation; luckily the recovery went quite well and a light breeze allowed me to maintain good seeing.
It was nice
