Sun in Whitelight 3rd September 2022

Post by steveward53 »

Another quick grab today with the 450D.

Wanted to try the new 2000D (Rebel T7) but Utility 3 crashed on me and the clouds arrived before I could sort it.

Steve,
I have noticed that you use DSLR cameras for your white light imaging and they do good on that. Do you have a monochrome video camera?

Hi James

I have an Altair 174MM sitting here that I bought to accompany my aborted Ha plans , I just haven't got round to playing with it yet.

Mainly because in order to get a full disc would mean messing about with mosaics , all fine and dandy for an occasional look but too much faffing about when you're just wanting a day by day record of what's going on on the disc.

I'm contemplating a larger refractor (152/1200) to stick the 174 on for higher resolution close-up views.

I've been using the DSLR and TAL in the solar full disc role for ten years now and have no real needs or desires to change the set-up ... ;)

Steve,
DSLR cameras work well for white light. I have done that a few times myself. I have two Nikon DSLRs. They are much more difficult to use for Ha but with skill and patience that can be done too. Even smartphones can be used for solar, with white light being again the easiest to pull off.

CaK really interests me but I haven't had the cash to invest in the filters which have really gone up in price over the last two years. I use the KSO CaK images as a stop-gap until I get the tech.

And I do enjoy your white light full discs and find them very informative.

Thanks

James
