Sun FD in H-Alpha, CaK and Continuum 11th of September 2022

Post by arnedanielsen »

Dear friends,

The forecast said clear blue skies all day and I was looking forward to spending the whole day imaging the Sun with different instruments. However, it wasn't until late afternoon the skies cleared and it was possible to do any solar imaging. Thus I ended up with just the usual FD's.

Click on images to view them in full size on AstroBin.

FD image in H-Alpha using a Coronado 60mm/BF15 w/Beloptik ITF, stopped down to 50mm, Baader 35nm H-Alpha and ASI 178mm mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest.

FD image in CaK using a FLO StellaMira 80mm ED f/10, stopped down to 60mm, Lunt CaK 1200 module and ASI 183mm camera mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest.

FD image in Continuum using a FLO StellaMira 80mm ED f/10, Baader Cool-Ceramic Safety Herschel Prism Photographic 2", Baader ND OD 1.8, Baader 2" Continuum, Baader 2" UV/IR Cut and ASI 183mm camera mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest.

Very, very nice, Arne! All of your images are spectacular as always, but for some reason that purple CaK image just speaks to me today. :)

Silly new guy question - are you stopping down due to poor seeing conditions? If so, are you using a SSM to gauge that or just going with your experience to know if it is needed or not? Thanks!

Brian

Thank you very much Brian!

Stopping down is simply done to match the resolution of the aperture (for that given wavelength) to the sampling rate of the camera.

Arne
