September 11 2022 White Light Observations.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:50 until 17:10 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are still mostly cloudy. The seeing is below average. The temperature is 76F ( 24.4C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see eight disturbances on the continuum photosphere today. four in the north with all bearing labels and four in the south with three bearing labels.

AR13099 is visible in the NE quadrant as a small spot or large pore with a second smaller pore just to it's NE. NW of AR13099 lies AR13096 which shows itself as three small spots. West of it across the CLM lies the larger AR13098. It shows three structured spots with one showing a cleft or deep incision into the eastern side of it's umbra. A center large pore is well defined. I can see about 10 spots/pores in the group. To the west of AR13098, AR13094 shows itself as only a single large pore. Well NW of AR13094 near the limb AR13101 shows itself as a group of seven spots and pores. SDO HMI shows more in HD.The westernmost spot shows a penumbra and has a tiny double umbra! Faculae are visible here too.

Near the SW limb AR13092 shows itself as a structured spot bearing umbra and penumbra with a pore just to the north of it. Faculae surround it. An arm of faculae is easily seen trailing to the south of the spot which may at least in part belong to AR13093 and a fainter arm of faculae to the SE which may be be in part associated with AR13097. I didn't include the two arms of faculae in my AR count since visually they are indistinguishable from AR13092 appearing as extensions of it. I see no spots or pores in those facular extensions. The SE quadrant shows AR13100 as a grouping of 6 spots and pores. The westernmost spot shows an umbra and penumbra. SDO hi def shows a small light bridge in the SE part of the umbra but I cannot see it. Better seeing and higher magnification are needed. The higher resolution SDO continuum images show additional smaller pores in the group with all of them being east of the largest spot. Faculae are seen here. NE of AR13100 lies an unnumbered patch of faculae. During moments of better seeing I was able to glimpse a single pore here.

The granulation was visible but was soft. It was very difficult to make out as sessions end.

James

There are certainly a lot of pores and spots on this disc so you were very good to see these, well done James :bow :hamster:
