Sun FD in H-Alpha and CaK 14th of September 2022

Post by arnedanielsen »

Dear friends,

A short spell of blue allowed for a quick imaging session in the afternoon. I managed to get H-Alpha and CaK, but it clouded over before I was able to do Continuum. A very impressive prominence to be seen in H-Alpha and lots of active areas in CaK.

Click on images to view them in full size on AstroBin.

FD image in H-Alpha using a Coronado 60mm/BF15 w/Beloptik ITF, stopped down to 50mm, Baader 35nm H-Alpha and ASI 178mm mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest.

Super impressive as always, Arne! You really did that massive hook shaped prom justice - it looks great in your image!

Excelent pictures.

Such a pleasure to enjoy on Astrobin. I was marveling at your first posted image. Do you do two separate prom and surface shot or modify the surface shot? Whichever way you do it I cannot notice the processing, it is very masterful and naturally done :bow :bow :hamster:

Thank you so much everyone for all your kind comments!

Alexandra: I do a separate recording for the pure prom image with a longer exposure time to increase the s/n of the prominences. For the disc/prom the typical exposuretime with this setup is 3.5-4ms using neutral gamma. For the prom shots I use 12ms and a gain setting of 65 in FC.

Here you can see the stacked and sharpened versions before doing any contrast stretching.
