September 19 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time was from 14:46 until 15:50 UTC. The skies are clear with fair/average seeing. MUCH better than yesterday!! The temperature is 72F ( 22.2C ) at 15:00 UTC.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
Today I see four numbered active regions with all being in the southern hemisphere. in addition to these another yet unnumbered active region is seen very near the SE limb. The northern hemisphere shows no real active areas but I can pick up two tiny plage disturbances in the NW quad with a close look.

Outside of the tiny fairly hard to see disturbances in the NW quad I can see three small filaments nearby. Two other easy filaments are seen well east of these with the larger at the CLM. More filaments are in the far NE.

AR13100 in the SW quadrant appears as a plage with a visible spot. North of it a brighter plage can be seen. This is AR13104. Fainter plage connects the two. East of these two lies the plage of AR13103. A few small filaments are located south and southeast of these active regions. AR13102 has just crossed the CLM in the south and is the largest brightest plage on the disc. Three spots and a couple of thin filaments are associated with the scattered plage. A new plage yet unnumbered is seen almost on the SE limb.

A number of proms are seen around the limb but nothing really significant. The brightest are three on the SW limb.

The usual mottles are seen across the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see five regions of activity on the WL photosphere today. All are in the southern hemisphere. Four of these have NOAA numbers. The Northern Hemisphere is without detail at all!!

Three regions are seen in the SW quadrant. AR13100 ( S ) shows a larger structured spot with a smaller one just to it's east. Faculae trails ESE of the spots. AR13104 ( N ) shows a small spot and a pore among faculae. AR13103 is seen as just a patch of low contrast faculae to the east. AR13102 near the Central Longitudinal Meridian shows itself as a nice spot group with four spots showing easy umbra-penumbra structure. The westernmost spot shows a light bridge in it's umbra. A strange smeared cloudlike spot is seen just WSW of the easternmost section of the group. It looks like a penumbra without an umbra!! Four smaller spots cross over just north of it. Quite a number of smaller spots are seen in the group besides the larger ones, especially in the eastern part of the group. A small spot is seen well south of the umbraless spot and another just SW of the two western spots. The new region near the SE limb shows three spots among faculae at 50x.

The fine granulation is visible across the disc.

Carpe Diem!

James

Another very accomplished report, James. Clouded out over here, although currently the end of this week looks promising.

Thanks Stuart. I just wish I could get my imaging up to the level my visual is.
