Hi,

I lived in Mexico City for about 25 years and used to feel earthquakes and then after moving to central Mexico, a place allegedly with no earthquake activity, well yesterday the strong 7.6 Richter scale earthquake at 18:05 UTC was felt in my Observatory.

Suddenly I started to get dizzy and did not know why until I saw two chains swinging nicely in unison and said to myself " Earthquake " and yes after a few minutes the news reported the earthquake ... Everything is fine just the strange feeling of having had an earthquake again

I felt it quite strong comparing to my experiences while living in Mexico City.

The epicenter was located about 470 km from my place in straight line ... Of course a lot of replicas going on. According to the Mexican Seismological system there have been up to now 692 replicas. The latest with 4.2 magnitude.

Look at the attached image . I am in San Luis Potosi which you will find on the upper right quadrant.

Still cloudy and I will need to check the polar alignment of my mounts and see if something moved. The builders and architects up here are not preapred for building earthquake safe.

Very interesting.

Although not in an earthquake zone, in greater London (clay surface), I do feel tremors when lorries or heavier vehicles (like trucks loading sand or building material) pass through my area. I can feel vibrations when I am asleep. So we all probably suffer with some type of tremor.

We live on an earth with active tectonics and plate movements...on top of a molten core of iron and rock !

Wonderful planetary science in motion, but not quite the motion you want on a daily basis ;) I hope everything is alright for you.

I know that Eric seems to get some bad ones :(

About 20 years ago in Manchester we had a run of about 4 earthquakes over a series of weeks, it was quite scary at the time when I was work. Nothing for 20 years now so I expect we are probably about due ;)

Good you are alright and in general your obsy is ok, our town ship has a quarry dynomite permitted at will without notice and about 5mi from my homestead. The only stipulation is the nighttime noise ordinance other than that as much tnt as they need as often as is needed, fortunatly for us its a small operator but you still feel it under foot from 5mi away.

Havent had a chandilier swinger quake here in WI since I was a 6yr old, that lunar solar gravitational barycenter thingy is likely the culprit again.

Best of luck today.

Hi,

Today again one at about 06:16 UTC with a magnitude of 6.9 ...

This one did not move the ground where I live. In the Map below you can see the seismic activity in Mexico. Yuu will find me in the center of the Map and you can see it is seldom.

I am glad you are ok. Quakes have to be quite scary. I am glad nothing was damaged. Hopefully you will be able to return to your frequent solar imaging.
