Re: Lovely old film about the Swedish Total Eclipse in 1914.
Thanks.
I was interested in the solar viewing device on the refractor eyepiece which they kept showing.
It looked to be two 45º prisms in series. Or perhaps two angled and presumably uncoated wedges in series.
Older Herschel wedges, often in brass mounts, were more like modern, right angled diagonals with an exit port for the unfiltered heat.
Perhaps two angled and uncoated flats would reduce the light and heat enough for a filter to be safe.
Those shown in the film don't look as if they employ the Brewster angle to allow partial polarisation by axial rotation.
Are there any optical historians here who can enlighten us?

I was hoping they weren't using those horrible eyepiece filters
It was a great photography for the time though

Very fun video. I liked the way the women dressed back in that day. Very classy.

I'm intrigued by the front-end apparatus on the 'scope at the end (@6:23)
Appears to be some sort of collection of prisms ... ?

That was a great result, especially for the time! I was wondering if they'd get anything at totality, and sure enough they did. Thanks for sharing!
