September 23 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:45 until 15:30 UTC. The skies are clear and the seeing is a bit below average. The temperature is a fall-like 61F ( 16.1C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( WL )
I can see seven active regions in the Ha chromosphere today. Two are in the northern hemisphere with one being numbered. Five are seen in the southern hemisphere with all five having numbers.

A new active region is seen just this side of the NE limb. I can see it as a plage with bright surge proms above it. The SDOAIA304 image comes closer to matching my visual view than the GONG Ha image does. The proms are small but bright and can be seen against the disc rising just above it. The NW quadrant shows the plage of AR13109 easily. Widely scattered filaments cross the northern hemisphere. Some mottled prominences rest on the NW limb.

The far SW shows the large scattered plage of AR13102 with a bisecting filament and two hard to see spots. Four small proms are on the SW limb to the south nearby. AR13108 now across the CLM into the SW quadrant shows a plage with a spot in it's western end. Three filaments are seen to the SE. Two curved ones and below them an almost complete circular filament. The AR13105-06-07 complex appears as waves of plages emanating from near the limb pointing NW. Three spots can be searched out and a single filament can be seen coming from the spot of AR13107. A large diffuse mottled prominence lies on the SE limb nearby. The northern part of the prom is the brightest part of it. Two more smaller proms lie to the north.

The disc-wide mottles are seen across the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see seven active regions on the WL photosphere today. Two are in the northern hemisphere with one of those being numbered and five are visible in the southern hemisphere with all having official NOAA number labeling.

A yet unnumbered region is seen just inward of the NE limb. It appears as a group of three spots with a larger western one that appears to show structure. Faculae surround them. AR13109 in the NW quadrant shows six small spots or large pores in a curved line. SDOHMIc shows a small faculae near the NW limb. I did not notice it.

AR13102 shows itself nearing the SW limb with two structured spots. The largest has two umbrae surrounded by a shared penumbra. I can glimpse some small pores just SE of the easternmost spot. Faculae surrounds the system but is more abundant to the south of the spots. AR13108 not in the SW quad shows five spots clearly. A sixth is visible with difficulty. The westernmost leader spot shows both umbra and penumbra. The complex of AR13105-06-07 is a long line of spots in the SE quadrant. Most of the spots are irregular in shape with no symmetry to them at all. They are a raggedy bunch! Pores stream between the larger spots. What was a pore among faculae in the easternmost one is now a easily seen fused mass of pores with possibly some involved developing penumbrae. The faculae are still visible in the two SE regions of the line.

The fine granulation can be seen but not very well.

It's 🍺 FRIDAY 🍺 !! :hamster:

James

Sounds like a wonderful solar session James :hamster: I had a beautiful blue sky morning and spent 3hrs wasting my time. I should take up solar sketching through the PST full time :(
