September 24 2022 Imaging. Big SE Prominence!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today I went out intending to do a visual session and first did a quick look through the Celestron 102 at 55x at 540nm. Then I went to the Coronado SolarMax II 90 and noticed a large prominence on the SE limb. I aborted the visual run in favor of imaging the prominence and never committed to memory or notes of what I saw in the C102. I went in and got the PGR Grasshopper camera and MacBook Pro laptop and set up for imaging the prominence. My visual/imaging time was from 14:30 until 15:35 UTC. The skies were partly cloudy with well below average seeing and the temperature was 63F ( 17.2C ).

Here's the results with some professional bonuses.

James

Thanks for the report James. Clear skies so far here this moring, just a couple of hours till it clears the house rooftops, it's getting low in the sky quite quickly!

Thanks Mark and Maurits. The sun is getting noticeably lower in the sky as autumn 🍂 is now upon us.

Beautiful captures of the prominences and the extended line of sunspots, James. Yes, the sun is much lower and the season has suddenly changed here too. Yesterday morning it was 42 Fahrenheit.

The seeing really hurt me. It took the sharpness away. and I had to downsize them significantly to make them look not so fuzzy. It affects the disc more it seems but I did have the tuning better and I at least got all the filaments, arcs, spots and bright plages of that long active region. So at least in that way it was a success. Thank you dear, your opinions and hints matter. I'll take heed of them.
